A year later the Covid times, when things will be back to ‘normal’, many of us will introspect the things we missed. And, for me it would be indeed the few things like you- the outside food, long vacations, careless get-togethers etc. But, the one thing that I missed most is the brave smiles of the little children, ready at home, standing at the school gate! I missed the uniform that is one size big or small for their age, the brand-new school bag, water bottles, hanging unwieldly off their shoulders, and the brave byes to the parents, a hug, a few teary eyes, and yes, the wave of baffled emotions. The first day in schools are a riot of emotions for everyone- children, parents and the preschool staff!

Covid-19 has disrupted the normal cycle, followed from years together in different fields. It has changed the way we think, act and deliver. The education process is the best example that has been seeing a transformation on how learning should happen. In future, it will indeed go far beyond the traditional teaching methods.

Early childhood centres will have to understand that they need to go beyond the regular curriculums or teaching patterns. The pandemic has put forth many missing or lacking aspects of preschool due to the virtual sessions.

Preschools or early childhood centres are the first experience of children, and the time has come that they implement holistic learning experience, and aid the minds of early learners to become creative thinkers, problem solvers, better communicators, collaborators and life-long learners. The National Education Policy (NEP) is the push for this change.
